Troop 18 Times On The Web

Note: This may be abridged

From Your Scribe
by Myke Cameron
Hello fellow scouts. As you can see, the Troop 18 Times are changing again. This is mostly due to the fact that I have changed system platforms and will be using Microsoft Publisher to make my newsletter. I am fairly sure that this will be the new setup for the newsletter (I mean it this time). As always I would like to remind you that you are always welcome to submit your writings to the newsletter. Thanks for your help.

Let's Go Camping In the light of the recent cancellation I had to ask myself, are we men or are we mice? I decided promptly that we must be men that were acting as mice. Should we have attended this camping trip, it surely would have been a dismal time, but nothing we could not handle. The weather was rather hostile, but once again, nothing we could not have handled. This is of course assuming that we packed correctly. This can be achieved by following some simple, but very effective, rules.

Downhill Racer
Ski Trip Coming Up
The best trip of the year is coming up, yes it's the ski trip! Don't go digging out your gear yet, however, you still have a few requirements to fulfill. Before you can race down those slopes, you have to go to (GASP) Cold Toes. Only then can you ski that beautiful Cranmore park! There are also some guidelines that you must abide by, however. Only "real" gear is allowed. By this we mean no ski-boards, big-feet, sled dogs, or snowboards. Just your skis, poles, boots, and the such. You may also have heard rumors on the condition of our usual cabin. The ski trip is scheduled as usual and may not be held at our cabin due to it's total annihilation. Remember that you will be provided with breakfast and dinner, but you will be responsible for your lunch at the mountain.

About Cold Toes
You may find it important that Camping Merit Badge will not be held at cold toes as scheduled. I am not sure on what will happen to the Camping Merit Badge Patrol, but my guess is it will stay in a patrol. In any case, keep your ears open. Also, it will not be excusable to miss cold-toes and try to go skiing. Talk to Mr. Castrucci for more information

A Look At February
February is sure to be yet another fun filled month. We will start out with a troop meeting on February 3. Then on the weekend of the 7th and 8th we will be camping at Upton state forest. This camping trip will serve as our cold-toes (see related article, "About Cold Toes"). On the 10th we will have another troop meeting, at the Milford Methodist Church as usual. The following week is school vacation week, so we will not have any meetings, or scout functions. On the 17th of February there is a BSA Roundtable, and another meeting on the 24th.

Pack 4 Visits
The local Cub Scout troop, Pack 4, will send some of their second year Webelo scouts to visit a typical troop meeting. This will take place on the February 10th meeting. These are the same scouts that will later cross over (the Blue and Gold will be held on the 22nd), so we are trying to attract them to our troop. Please, be on your best behavior that meeting.

Ask Your Leader
Beginning this month, a new column, "F.Y.I." will appear in the Troop 18 Times. This column will feature questions, and their answers. To contribute a question, ask me (Myke) at a meeting, or e-mail troop18milford@hotmail.com.

CyberNotes
Starting this month the Troop 18 Times will also be distributed using e-mail. If you are interested send a message to the address above.
